8th grade quilted hanging for Auction and a bag

This can be a 3rd grade project. my 3rd grader and I experimented with it....super easy! She wet felted the flap and crocheted bag and hand sewn lining......I LOVE WET FELTING!!!! the curl on the end is inspired by a true felting goddess.http://pamdegroot.blogspot.com/ I know ours needs work to look like Pamdegroot's but we are just beginners....we'll get there.

sew up sides

Here is the quilted hanging that the 8th grade made. I think they did a nice job. they each machine sewed 2 squares and other did the assembling. we have some beads on there too....it's nice.

Flu season and rant on my Art history teacher

It's flu season and in our family we are STRONGLY against vaccines....don't even try and convince me Vacs are a good idea....I'll just go ballistic on you. So we had a week of us all being sick....and it's spring break. so now it's Saturday and I am no longer sick and I am thinking...."so now I am well, let's get started with our vacation!" No just luck!

I also just took a Art History quiz and it was full of trick questions...AHHHHHHH I am soooo pissed off!!!! I needed to vent this.... I just want to curse and swear (I won't cause I don't have a potty mouth) But I WANT TO! I hate stupid teachers! ahhhh, never do that to your students! don't trick them and think that by tricking them with stupid words you will be able to teach them something.....especially in art!

ahhhh!!!! can you tell I am pissed off.....

I am sure I will delete this rant in the morning.....

Come take a walk with me around campus. Here you see the Orchard house. Bottom floor is the Craft studio and upstairs is dorms.
This is the main house where registration, lectures and the cafe is....plus student computer room.
Here is Holder house Dorm house. 4 kitchens. 3 floors and I don't know how many rooms!
Front entrance way. Branches off to all the different directions
Hall way to our North Kitchen and our rooms
Julia and I were roommates . Julia is felting a small felted Gnome at the moment

Do you remember that gnome Julia was just felting? Well we made 3 each (julia and I) and we are off to hide them in random places for kids to find. So walk with us through campus......
This is a lecture building.
This is the bridge that divides Sunbridge and the Springvalley campus. They call the sunbridge side "Brook Side". In the summer the camp director puts hundreds of arrow heads in the brook for the kids to find.
Julia is hiding a gnome in the roots of this tree. The yellow building in the back is the Eurythmy school.
Walking up to Spring Valley Waldorf school.
Julia is hiding a gnome in the branches of this tree outside 1st grade.
I hid all my gnome in the Kinder play yard...can you see one in the hole of the log?
This is a display case in the middle school building

This week in the Handwork room

I just made her up by crocheting in a round doll.....not too bad for first time.....Spring is here! start with chain of 3 go back into first stitch about 5 times. start to work in a round until you have the desired leg size. work on next leg the same way. connect the legs and work in a round to make the torso. decrease near the top to make it thinner. Then do the same for the arms....supper easy!
Made by a 7th grader
the pizza guy was made by a 7th grader. My kids are so talented! another one was finished on the same day but he was made to look like our Garden Teacher "Farmer Tony" so we had to go out to Garden and gift him his doll.
The red pot holder is made by a 2nd grader and the thread rack is used by 4th, 6th and 8th grade. The cross stitch is 4th grade. The Flute cases are 1st grade
3rd grade puppets are almost done......stone soup here we come
3rd grade made looms from sticks.....my pre schooler is holding up her sisters work.
we will weave in flowers and grass and bark etc.

YES!!!!!

This is only funny if understand Eurythmy and know how much boys want to NOT do Eurythmy so to see them create their own performance to a Disney soundtrack is rare and extremely funny!

Handwork teachers are the Priestesses of the school

I took a great workshop yesterday! It was the Spacial dynamics workshop run by Edmund Knighton
http://www.sfmovement.citymax.com/edmund.html
if you ever get a chance to take a spacial dynamics workshop you should jump at the opportunity.

Well in our workshop we periodically stop and he talks to us.....at one point he started to talk about how Handwork teachers and he said that we "are the Priestesses of the school.....Handwork teachers hear EVERYTHING at the school and if they don't keep that silence and grace, the school could get into a lot of trouble" "when Children start to work with their hands, they inadvertently start to talk and the handwork teacher is there is listen."

So to this I say, hold these conversations sacred and understand that we are not here to judge but to listen, guide and support.

The film below is of Edmond working with some of the kids at school during games class. it is a clapping exercise.
