Shame on all those schools who are paying part time salaries to Handwork teachers who teach 1-8th grade
when class teachers work the same hours and get full time pay
SHAME ON THEM!!!!!

Teachers don't stand for it!

IT'S A BUNCH OF BS!!! especially for those teacher who paid $12,000 plus room and board and airfare for their teacher training!

Don't do it! tell them its BS!

Handwork teachers need full time pay. we work our asses off!!!!!

  1. You do. The prep time is enormous. Just teaching my class handwork this year I can see that there's a lot of time involved. It takes me 45 minutes to sew up a gnome. Multiply that by 15...

  2. That's just Bizarre! A teacher is a teacher. same training, same pay!

  3. You are speakin' my language here, sistah...I work for next to nothing, no benefits, no job security...why would I want to dedicate myself to this profession at this rate? Soooo, this may be my last year, although I may hold on to it until my son graduates from high school. This has been my argument since I started...how am I payed so little for having as many teaching hours as a grades teacher? It makes no sense and certainly makes me feel not very respected. I may move on to just subbing next year.....

  4. I agree completely. It is insane that a teacher who teaches quite as many hours, and prepares for even more, as a class teacher, should not receive the same pay and benefits. It has always been our goal as a school to pay subject teachers a full salary for a 1-8 curriculum, but the fact of the matter is that while we have grades 1 - 8 at our school, we are down to 5 classes (1, 2, 3/4, 5/6, and 7/8), and the handwork teacher teaches 2 lessons each week per class...
